Mike Walker

In the realm of education, there are exceptional individuals who go above and beyond to make a profound impact on students' lives. Mike Walker stands as a remarkable example of a
multifaceted leader, serving as principal at Sutro Elementary School, school board member for Carson City, and an influential figure on both the State Board of Education and as vice-president of our association. His dedication, expertise, and visionary leadership has made him a trailblazer in the field, driving positive change and shaping the future of Nevada education.

Mike grew up in Reno and graduated from Wooster High School in 1992.  He earned his B.S.
and M.Ed. degrees in elementary education and an Ed. Specialist. degree in educational
leadership from the University of Nevada, Reno.  He has taught 3 rd  grade and served as a dean of students and assistant principal.  He also worked for the Nevada Department of Education as the State Coordinator of the Education of Homeless Children and Youth and as a Title I educational professional. 

In addition, Mike is also active within the community.  He was president of Food for Thought, a non-profit providing nutritious meals to children experiencing food insecurity and serves on the board of the Jordan Woodward Memorial Scholarship.  He was elected to Carson City School Board in 2016 and has served as clerk, vice president, and president and attended the required training to become a certified public official.
