Nevada school districts are organized by county. Because Nevada is comprised of seventeen counties, there are seventeen school districts. Nevada has the least number of school districts in the contiguous 48 states.
School districts range in size from below one hundred pupils to more than 316,000 boys and girls. The Clark County School District in Southern Nevada is the fifth largest school district in the nation.
Nevada school districts are among the largest in the nation based upon geographic size. Nye County School District is the largest geographical district in the contiguous 48 states at 18,400 square miles.
